Block : Elder Scrolls Skyrim
One of 18 skills in The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim, Block is a combat skill which falls under the warrior play style.
Why is Block Bad Ass
Block is one of the most bad ass skills because while you may think it's a defensive skill, and it is to some degree, it's a beat you to the ground skill. You beat people to the ground, literally, while laughing as they shoot arrows or throw petty fireblasts at you.
What does Block Affect
Simply put, it affects blocking. Right click for glorious PC gamers puts you into beast mode. As with all other skills in Skyrim, increasing the skill allows you access to powerful perks (pictured right) that allow you to knock people on their butts, disarm them even knock out some teeth courtesy of the edge of your shield. Beast mode.
On top of the conventional uses a lot of the perks found in the Block skill tree affect Two-Handed warriors as well.

Increasing Block Skill in Skyrim
Block skill is only increased on successful blocks. Meaning you must have the stamina and must negate a portion of damage in order to get credit for it. Holding the button down, even if in preparation for an attack, means nothing unless you are actually hit.

Block Tips
While not automatic, wearing a shield still increases armor even if you do not have your block button held down before an attack.
You can block with two-handed weapons and there are a number of perks which affect two-handed block as well; Shield Wall, Quick Reflexes, Power Bash, Deadly Bash and Disarming Bash.
