Alchemy : Elder Scrolls Skyrim
One of 18 skills in The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim, Alchemy is a crafting skill which falls under the thief play style.
Why is Alchemy Bad Ass
Alchemy is one of the most bad ass skills because it finally allows you to eat glue without having people look at you weird. It gives purpose to the many flowers you've picked or the butterflies you've caught. No you aren't gay, you're just frugal and are looking for rare ingredients. That bard that just called you gay is going to have his mead spiked with a brewed up poison, we'll see who has the last laugh.
What does Alchemy Affect
Alchemy skill has an effect on the potency of your brewed potions and elixirs. The effects of the potion will be there but in varying degrees of magnitude. As with all other skills in Skyrim, increasing the skill allows you access to powerful perks (pictured right) that allow you to make powerful potions that rival even the strongest spells, provide passive bonuses to poisonous effects or even being able to tell multiple effects from eating glue or any other ingredient.
Alchemy skill only counts for so much as a lot of the skill is draped in trial and error. Each ingredient has four effects, all of which are hidden. Only by matching up hidden effects will you craft a potion that provides an effect, by eating the raw ingredient will you discover one (two if perk is chosen) effect. With countless effects and countless ingredients, Alchemy can be frustrating, but very, very rewarding.

Increasing Alchemy Skill in Skyrim
The only way you are going to get better at Alchemy is through practice. Keep making new potions and tonics, even if they fizzle, you'll still get credit.

Alchemy Tips
You do not need to know the effects an ingredient has beforehand, feel free to guess or even follow a recipe note you've bought or found.
Ingredients and potions can get quite heavy if you don't monitor them. You're always picking up different things and brewing them up, those 0.3s and 0.5s add up.
