Lockpicking : Elder Scrolls Skyrim
One of 18 skills in The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim, Lockpicking is a non combat skill which falls under the thief play style. Skyrim Lockpicking Tips.
Why is Lockpicking Bad Ass
Lockpicking is one of the most bad ass skills because you can go anywhere. Have you ever seen Dexter? That ice cold motha f*cka pulls out his out lock picks and enters everywhere from mansions to marinas. The only time he got caught is when there was an additional motion sensor alarm system installed. In Skyrim, they don't even have electricity, so I think you're good. Now go satisfy your dark passenger.
What does Lockpicking Affect
Lockpicking skill affects that terrible lockpicking mini game. I'm sorry that you have to endure it, although the rush you get when you solve a master lock without any perks is awesome. As with all other skills in Skyrim, increasing the skill allows you access to powerful perks (pictured right) that allow you to create copies of keys to the locks you've broken.
Increasing Lockpicking Skill
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game. What a load of crap, most of the time. In Skyrim's lockpicking mini-game whether you unlock the lock or break your pick, your skill level increases.

Skyrim Lockpicking Tips
I know why you're here, you want some Skyrim Lockpicking Tips. I know, I was the same way. This silly lockpick mini-game has truly made me glutton for punishment. I keep coming back for more even though it always ends in a messy stream of tears running down my face. If you are of the type of person who will... hmmm go around the difficulty of lockpicking with a mod may want to look here:

- For the others who are just looking for some Skyrim Lockpicking Tips, here's what I got.
- Make sure you are loaded up with lockpicks, always be checking blacksmiths, general stores and jewelery vendors as they may have lockpicks on them. 6 gold each, you can afford it.
- If your follower has skill in picking locks, you can order them to unlock chests you come across. They can only unlock up to their skill level, broken up from Novice, Adept, Expert and Master.
- Any lock can be picked from as low as 1 Lockpick skill. This makes it quite a useless skill tree unless you're just not very good at the mini-game.
- What I will do normally is split a lock into 9 probe spots, from locks Expert-Master what I will do is put my pick in each spot and tap the rotate and listen. If it sounds like I'm having no success I mode to the next probe spot. Once I get a hit, meaning I feel the lock giving a bit, I move fractions to either side, and repeat until I find success. You need to be ready to lose all the picks for probes, and then a couple picks finding the correct spot.
Hopefully this helps ^
- Consider keeping the Skeleton key ;)
- When you reload a game, from either a quick save or normal save the placement of the lock's sweet spot will change, so saving before a lock will only preserve your lockpick count.
- Your lockpick has a hidden, life bar. You will preserve your lockpick's health by holding briefly the rotate lock button as opposed to just holding it down, it is a game of finesse afterall.
- If you are trying to prevent breaking lockpicks, after a wrongful attempt without the lockpick breaking if you exit out of the mini-game screen and re-enter- the health of your lockpick will be refreshed.
- Rumor : When your pick is breaks, it points toward the sweet spot of the lock.
Those are all the Skyrim Lockpicking Tips I can think of now, I will keep trying to find out some.
